Position Summary

The Truck Supervisor provides day to day supervision for drivers and coordination with customers and Dispatch to ensure safe and efficient trucking operations within the District.   Truck Supervisors perform their duties, and ensure Truck Drivers and others perform their duties, in compliance with all relevant regulations, Company policies, processes and procedures, and customer requirements.  The Truck Supervisor develops and maintains good relations with representatives of assigned clients.  Monitors ongoing maintenance and repair of assigned equipment and may be required to direct minor maintenance and repair work performed by drivers.  Skills are typically acquired by the completion of the job competencies. 

Key Accountabilities
  • The Truck Supervisor is directly responsible for the day to day performance of his/her assigned drivers.
  • Continually emphasize safety.  Participate or lead safety meetings, hazard hunts and ensures JSA’s are followed and PPE requirements are met at all times.
  • Ensures the efficient organization of daily work tickets and assigns to drivers.
  • Attends work locations throughout the day to observe, assist, and coach drivers on processes, procedures and performance, and during critical operations.
  • Responsible for assuring that the daily work tickets are completed accurately, and signed by the customer when required.  Audits work tickets based on Company requirements and the work performed for the customer.
  • Ensures drivers are compliant with DOT regulations, maintain accurate logs, and follow pre-trip/post-trip inspection requirements / maintenance reporting.
  • Meet with customers through personal visits and phone contacts to ensure customer satisfaction and  resolve issues.
  • Completes site assessments of all new leases and/or delivery stations prior to the first driver arriving on location.
  • Respond to worksite emergencies such as spills, accidents or injuries.
  • Works with Maintenance and Repair department and / or third parties to ensure proper maintenance of the trucks and associated equipment.  Assures mechanical defects are corrected as they are reported by the truck drivers.
  • Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required by immediate supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Maintains the required knowledge in all applicable DOT rules and regulations and all job related Company, Local, State and Federal requirements.
  • An understanding and use of the basic management concepts and principles including delegation, motivation, discipline, goal setting and performance evaluation.
  • A working knowledge of the purpose, capability and limitations of the equipment assigned to the district.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to maintain positive working relationships with customers, drivers, and co-workers.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English to the extent that they are able to understand verbal and written instructions as well as give verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to use simple mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) to make job related calculations.
  • Knowledge of company policies, HSE standards and departmental guidelines.
  • Able to prepare effective Journey Management Plans
  • Skills to drive Commercial Vehicles as necessary.
  • Basic Computer skills.
Required Experience and Education
  • H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. or applicable experience preferred
  • 3-4 years directly related experience required
  • Experience as a DOT Ddriver preferred
