Position Summary

Directs, supervises, and governs software development projects.  Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities associated with creating/acquiring/implementing software solutions enabling digital transformation.  Reviews proposals to determine costs, timeline, funding, staffing requirements, and goals.  Oversees the work of internal/external project managers and their project teams.  The position will also play a partnership role with the field and business partner ensuring platforms and solutions developed improve operational efficiency with significant impact on business metrics. Directly reporting to the Chief Digital Officer.

Key Accountabilities
  • Understands the overall technology portfolio objectives and works with different business functions to understand business challenge priorities.
  • Directs plans and controls all activities and staff of application development within the digital organization and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
  • Participates in the identification and selection of information technologies vendors and/or consulting resources which assist the functional business units in meeting their strategic objectives.  Includes managing vendor relationships as required including off-shore or remote consulting services.
  • Provides vision, planning and coordination of all software solution implementation activities.  Establishes standards in software development and integration.
  • Prepare project business case in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Apply Project Management best practices to meet project plan timeline, budget and scope objectives.
  • Drive overall architecture and define application security guidelines.
  • Ensure, continuous integration and agile software development best practices, methodology and procedures used to ensure reproducible development of high quality, while keeping cost under control.
  • Manage Software Quality Assurance striving to achieve a high level of quality and independent verification of software reliability.
  • Provides innovative insights, stays at the leading edge of emergent trends, and technologies and champions application as appropriate.  Gets involved in industry forums to understand learnings and applications.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders regarding delivery goals, objectives, deliverables, plans, and status throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Identifies, prioritizes, and partners with third parties for building required solution efficiently and cost effective manner.

  • Oil Field Services Industry experience highly preferred.
Required Experience and Education
  • Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science or Engineering.  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering with equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum eight plus years of experience with oil and gas software systems.
  • Strong experience with client side programming including Angular, React JS, JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS is required.
  • Experience working with blended onshore/offshore, in-house/external development and QA teams is an asset.
  • Experience implementing solutions on the Public Cloud, GPC preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of the software/systems development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Understand the concepts of Lean approaches and the details of Agile methodologies and related methods (e. g. SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, DAD, Nexus, Agile, XP development, DevOps) and tools such as Jenkins Concourse CI and / or Gradle etc.
  • Experience with Event and Domain Driven Design a plus.
  • Capability to architect highly scalable distributed systems, using different open source tools.
  • 10+ years leadership and management experience, with ability to recruit, engage and develop staff with advanced degrees and diverse backgrounds and in different geographic locations, ability to allocate resources based on priority and skill level, strengths, and area of expertise; ability to train and mentor junior colleagues.
